The short version
- Lingvio is a speaking-practice app. The tutor is an AI: its corrections and level estimates are useful, but they can be wrong.
- Premium is an auto-renewing subscription sold by Apple. It renews until you cancel, and you cancel in the App Store — deleting the app is not cancelling.
- Use it to learn. Don't attack it, resell it, or put other people's private data into a conversation.
1. The agreement
These Terms of Use are the agreement between you and Lingvio (“Lingvio”, “we”, “us”) for the Lingvio app for iOS, this website, and the Lingvio web dashboard. By downloading, opening or using any of them you accept these Terms. If you don't accept them, don't use Lingvio.
How we handle personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.
2. Who can use Lingvio
You need to be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for using a service like this (16 in parts of the European Economic Area). If you are under 18, you may use Lingvio only with the permission of a parent or guardian. By using Lingvio you confirm that this is true of you.
3. Your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Lingvio on Apple devices that you own or control, in line with the App Store Terms of Service. The app is licensed to you, not sold.
Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the iOS app. Where these Terms give you fewer rights than that agreement's minimum terms, those minimum terms win. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide support for it, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms — meaning Apple may enforce them against you.
You may not copy, modify, translate, reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, rent or resell access to it, remove notices from it, or use it to build a competing service.
4. Subscriptions, free trial and billing
What Premium unlocks. A Lingvio Premium subscription lifts the daily practice limits and opens live voice minutes and the premium tutor voices. Exactly what is included is shown on the subscription screen inside the app at the moment you buy — that screen is the version that counts.
Plans and price. Premium is offered as a weekly, a monthly and a yearly plan in a single subscription group. The price for your country, in your currency, is always shown in the app before you confirm; App Store prices differ between countries and can change.
Free trial. Where a trial is offered and your Apple ID is eligible for it, Premium starts with a free trial period (currently one week). If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it turns into a paid subscription at the price shown. If you buy a subscription while a free trial is running, the unused part of the trial is forfeited.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase and again at each renewal.
How to cancel. Manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or in the App Store under your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the subscription keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Price changes. If we change the price of a plan, Apple notifies you and, where required, asks for your consent before the new price applies. You can cancel before it takes effect.
5. Refunds and promo codes
Purchases are made through the App Store, so refunds are Apple's to give. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot refund an App Store purchase directly, but if something went wrong on our side, write to us and we will help you make the case. Any statutory right of withdrawal or refund you have where you live is unaffected by this.
Promo codes are personal, can be used once, have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and may carry an expiry date. We may cancel codes obtained by abuse, automation or resale.
6. Free use and fair limits
Part of Lingvio is free to use, within daily limits shown in the app. Because every conversation costs us AI processing, we apply quotas, rate limits and fair-use limits, and we may adjust them — including for free use — to keep the service affordable and available. We won't reduce what a paid subscription includes during a period you have already paid for.
7. What Lingvio is — and what it isn't
The tutor's replies, corrections, pronunciation feedback and level estimates are generated by AI models. They are good enough to practise against, and they are not authoritative: they can be wrong, inconsistent, or out of date, and they are not an official language assessment or certification. Don't rely on them for exams, visa applications, job requirements or any other decision that matters without checking independently.
Lingvio is an educational tool. It does not provide medical, legal, financial or other professional advice, whatever the conversation happens to be about.
Because your messages are sent to third-party AI providers to produce a reply, please don't put sensitive personal information into a practice conversation — health details, financial data, passwords, or other people's private information.
8. Acceptable use
When using Lingvio, you agree not to:
- break the law, or use Lingvio to prepare or carry out anything illegal;
- try to make the model produce illegal material, or content that sexualises minors, incites violence or harasses people;
- upload or dictate other people's personal data without their consent;
- probe, scan, scrape or attack our API or infrastructure, or use it outside the app;
- use bots, scripts or emulators to generate traffic, farm streaks or exhaust quotas;
- resell, sublicense or share paid access, or get around quotas, entitlement checks or payment;
- impersonate Lingvio, or use our name or branding without written permission.
We may limit, suspend or end access when any of this happens.
9. Your content and ours
Yours. What you say and write in Lingvio stays yours. You give us the limited licence we need to run the service with it: to transmit it to our AI providers, generate replies and corrections, build your lesson history, and — in aggregated or de-identified form, which cannot be traced back to you — to improve Lingvio. We do not publish your conversations.
Ours. Lingvio, its name, logo, design, lesson and scenario content, and the software behind it belong to us or to our licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Nothing in these Terms transfers those rights to you. The tutor's replies generated in your own sessions are yours to use for learning.
10. Third-party services
Lingvio runs on services we don't control — Apple for distribution, billing and speech recognition, OpenAI for the tutor and live voice, ElevenLabs for premium voices, Google Firebase for analytics and crash reporting. Their own terms and policies apply to their part of the job, and we are not responsible for their availability or their decisions.
11. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep Lingvio available, but it depends on the internet, on Apple, and on third-party AI providers, and it can be unavailable, slow, or interrupted for maintenance. We may add, change or withdraw features. If a change materially reduces what a subscription includes, we will tell you before it takes effect so you can cancel.
12. Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription in the App Store and delete the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. If we end your access for no fault of yours while you have paid for a period that hasn't finished, ask Apple for a refund of the unused part and we will support the request.
Sections that by their nature should survive the end of this agreement — content licences, disclaimers, liability, governing law — do survive it.
13. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lingvio is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that using Lingvio will make you fluent, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the AI's output will be accurate.
Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of your country, which apply whatever these Terms say.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lingvio is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, data or opportunities, arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim connected with Lingvio is limited to the amount you paid for Lingvio (through Apple) in the twelve months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under mandatory consumer protection law.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms — for example when the product, the subscription plans or the law changes. The date at the top of the page changes with them, and material changes are announced in the app or on this page before they take effect. Continuing to use Lingvio after that means you accept the new version; if you don't, stop using Lingvio and cancel your subscription.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of the place where the operator of Lingvio is established, without affecting the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country you live in, which continue to apply to you. If you live in the European Union, you can also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
Before anything formal, please write to us — nearly everything is easier to fix that way.
